Breathe

What a day, what a week.  It isn’t even Friday yet and this week already feels about a million days long!  Okay, I may be exaggerating slightly, but I have reached that point where I am ready to be done!  I am ready to sweep the problems of the past under the rug (stomp on the rug!) and look forward to a fresh clean weekend ahead.  Actually, I will be probably be working quite a lot over the weekend, but I find my DLC job is quite fun most of the time.  Granted, bad parts which need a lot of reworking can be very frustrating, but the mechanical nature of assembly allows my mind a lot of freedom.  Lately, I have been indulging in books-on-tape while I assemble.  I just finished The Boggart by Susan Cooper -- five stars from me!  And, I am currently in the middle of Pollyanna by Eleanor H. Porter.  I should start playing the glad game the young heroine is so known for.  I am glad this week is almost over.  I am glad for the beautiful spring weather.  I am glad for fun diversions, like Rachel and her giant frog Naveen.  I hope you can see the video.  I need to film him during the day when you can actually see him.  His tiny counterparts are filling the warm evening air with a lovely chorus of croaking.  I am glad for evenings.  I love evenings.  Lastly, I am so glad tomorrow is Friday.

Happy Minion Birthday!

We had a super fun evening celebrating our friend Rob’s birthday, minion style!  Complete with decorations, pizza, root beer, and the crowning achievement of the evening, Sheila and Ashley’s minion cake!  We watched Despicable Me 2 (seemed fitting), as the evenings’ entertainment, followed by more minion cake.  Happy Birthday Rob!

Tiki-Tastic!!!

I spent a delightful afternoon tiki-ing up the Tiki Room.  We still have quite a few more details (and grass skirts!) to fill in, but things are looking quite tropical!!!

The Screen Is Up!!!

Piecing the frame together
Testing the wall placement
Stretching and clipping the screen onto the frame (Definitely the longest/hardest part of the process!  Dad had to use pliers to make sure the clips were tight enough!)
Up on the wall!
Adjusting and testing the final product with our slideshow of Disneyland.  Next on the agenda, the surround sound!  :)

Aloha!

For years now we have bantered around the idea of turning the garage into something fun and useful.  Now I know some people actually put their cars and tools in their garages, but ours has always been more of a giant collection station that tends to spread itself around in one massive heap on the floor.  Every summer (for years now) I would usually devote a good amount of time to working on the garage making it more accessible, or at least safer.  Last year I made the announcement that this would be my final summer organizing the garage, I was done with this Sisyphean task.  As luck would have it, this summer our dreams of transforming the garage are rapidly becoming a reality.  Soon we will have a fun multipurpose room/home theatre all decked out to look like a Hawaiian retreat complete with tiki heads to support the surround speakers.  We still have a lot of details to fill in to complete this tropical paradise, but we can finally start to see it coming together!

4th of July Fun!

This years’ Independence Day was a swimming, barbequing, movie watching, marshmallow roasting, and glow-stick playing day of fun with friends!  The day did have some tragedy in it unfortunately.  I lost two of my chicks to an unknown assailant, I am pretty sure it was a hawk.  I have since moved the chicks down with the rest of flock hoping the larger birds will offer them some protection from predators.  They seem really happy with their move and are not intimidated by their adult counterparts at all.  But the rest of the day was a blast, even with the ridiculously high heat we have been having!  Just a warning I took oodles of pictures, I had a ton of fun using the sports mode on my camera; epic splashes ahead!

Chicks for Chicks!

Three of my little Americanas went to a new home today!  I must admit I was a little sad to see them go, but these smiling faces certainly made parting easier.
Also, I am house-sitting this weekend for several fish, three kitties, and one very large German shepherd.  The days are getting quite hot, so I have a feeling this weekend will involve a lot of this.
Perfect opportunity to get caught up on my reading, writing, and blogging!

Summer Has Arrived!

The calendar page turned and the heat invaded.  After such a damp memorial day I expected a bit more chilly spring weather, but we have been hovering in the ninety degree range the last couple days.  It is finally time to get summerified, which means sweet tomatoes, warm evenings, and lots of swimming!
Today out at the farm we spent a good portion of our time weeding under shady trees, migrating around as the sun moved overhead.  My own garden is super small this year.  With all the business for DLC, moving, and school, I have only planted some sugar snap peas and a couple bunches of salad greens.  I do have one raised bed devoted to garlic and some onions from the winter, but they will not be ready to pick and eat for many months.  Rachel did discover a volunteer tomato plant where we had our garden last year, it is a pretty good size and we want to transplant it into a pot.  I have the pot full of dirt all ready and waiting, I just have not taken the time to actually transplant the tomato!
I am especially looking forward this year to hot afternoons, where the heat keeps you confined indoors with a cool drink and a good book.  It is also a great way to catch up on writing letters, novels, and, of course, blogging!
Here are the promised baby goat pictures!  They came running over when I walked up, but they soon realized I had come without any treats so they resumed romping and playing on their little playground.  Still, they are super cute!
