The Legend of the Uterus (Dun Dun DUN!)

The Awkward Yeti has become part of our daily-dose of laughter since Lydia scooped up the book "Heart and Brain" at Barnes & Noble a few months back (it is also conveniently on Amazon if anyone is interested, just follow the link!).  I am now subscribed to The Awkward Yeti's Facebook fan page and Instagram.  I can't call myself a true fanatic since I do not own a t-shirt yet, key word being "yet."  This particular comic had us girls in stitches.  We think it is a fairly accurate representation, though we agree tea and cookies is our preferred sacrifice.  Sadly, I don't have any cookies, the last one was consumed yesterday.  So I am sitting here with cinnamon tea and a laptop instead, far fewer calories and just as distracting.  I have always been happy being a girl -- most of the time.  But like with anything there is always good times and not-so-good times.  That is why God made sisters and girlfriends, so you have someone to complain to when when Aunt Flo (or is it "Flow?") comes calling.  Also, if there is a no one around to suffer through your grumbling, there is always the internet!!!  Happy Friday!!!

Summer Slimdown

Over the past nine months my level of physical activity plummeted to a very low level.  One of the unfortunate side effects of studenthood.  I spent the majority of my time sitting, sitting in my car, sitting in class, sitting in the library, sitting to eat, and sitting to watch a movie or read in my free time.  All that inactivity combined with holiday eating, regular eating, snacks...what can I say!  I am a foodie!... led to too much of me.  So, I have embarked on a summer slimdown challenge which I have been faithfully sticking to for the past twenty days.  They say it takes twenty-one days to break an old habit or instill a new one.  My scale has not shown a drastic decrease yet, but I have seen a big improvement from regularly exercising.  I am looking slimmer and feeling great!  Just in time for swimsuit season too!!!

My Week

I didn't pull any all-nighters this week, just up-early-and-go-go-gos!  Thank goodness for weekends with no morning alarm clocks in them.  Happy first day of summer!!! :D

April Showers -- I Mean -- SNOW! Bring What? I Don't Know!

Today, amidst rain, snow, cold, and lack of power, this happened.

Just as I was starting to believe spring was truly here, WHAMO, snow!  That is why you never plant your vegetable garden before Mother’s Day around here.  I have learned not to get sucked into this “false spring” as Rachel used to call it.  Three cheers for sweaters, slippers, and warm fires!  Staying positive, staying warm, and definitely staying entertained.  ;)

TGIF (Again!)

Whew!  What a day!  Twenty-five mirror mounts are built, packed, and shipped, with only the usual amount of frustration; I can’t wait to be done with that batch of knobs and brass, they do not like each other!  Still, it feels good to have them off so I don’t have to work over the weekend.  I also took advantage of the lovely day to clean the chicken coop, it really needed it.  It has been quite a long time since I posted about the chickens, the ladies are outdoing themselves in the egg department (averaging about ten a day!), and Bob is still as mean as ever.  Come May we will have been keeping chickens for five years!  It is quite amazing how fast time flies by.  There are plenty more things I hope to get accomplished this weekend, but for tonight I am going to put up my feet and enjoy a worry-free Friday!

Comedy Time!

I will admit, one of my favorite wasting-time activities is finding funny youtube videos.  Mom found and sent me the trampoline one (watch till the end!), it had us all in stitches!  The second video is a clip I stumbled across when I looked up this Christian comedian, Tim Hawkins, he has some great routines but this one is my favorite.  Enjoy!

Ahhhhhhhh!

Heart still pounding, feeling hot and sweaty, kicking myself for being foolish!  Tonight after a lovely evening eating dinner with my family, watching Oz the Great and Powerful, eating delicious homemade chocolate ice cream, and marveling at the amazing full moon, I packed up and headed up to my house.  I make the trek between the two houses many times each day, and plenty of times in the dark.  Tonight as I walked up the driveway I heard a lot of crunching.  Shining my light around, which I just realized was very weak and getting weaker, I spotted a mass of black and white fluff waddling toward me.  Skunk!  I calmly walked backwards down the driveway, losing sight of his eyes as I walked.  Suddenly his eyes reappeared closer than they should have been.  I sprinted down the driveway and slammed into the front door; dad had locked it after me.  Naturally I did what any rational person would do, knocked and rang the doorbell till someone came to let me in.  After making it safely inside and explaining my situation, dad went out to investigate.  After several minutes I thought I would go check on him, you all know where this is going don’t you?  I stood on the porch looking around for dad, saw his flashlight, and started to walk toward him.  Suddenly another rustle alerted me to the aforementioned animal just a few feet away!!!  Thankfully he hurried away from me just as fast as I hurried away from him.  Unfortunately he nearly ran straight into dad in the process, but we ended up having a smelly-free evening in the end.  Moral of the story, do not go to investigate people going to investigate skunks, it could result in a scary, or stinky, encounter.

". . . a Few of My Favorite Things."

I just gave our family YouTube channel a bit of a face-lift; you should go check it out!  Many of the videos have already been featured on this blog or my mom's blog, but there are a few extra ones too.  I have also added my Cousin Tiffany's blog, Adventure of a Lifetime, to my special list of links.  I do enjoy seeing all those little pink tabs under my header.  I wish I could be as organized in my closet!  I always prefer ending posts on a funny or quirky note, so here is a little blog (and grammar/spelling) humor that had me in stitches.  TTFN!

The Evelyn-Couch-Green-Tomatoes Workout!

Every year about this time, I make my annual pledge to get in shape and drop those nagging extra pounds.  It is no secret that I am a foodie, and though I can exercise some self control when it comes deserts and portions, losing the extra pounds will not tone my lazy muscles so I usually opt for more exercise in addition to less snacking.  Well this particular bug has been caught by other members of the family, and when we uncovered Matthew’s trampoline while cleaning out the garage (it had become the unofficial cardboard recycle holder), this has become the exercise tool of choice.

Mom has dubbed this particular form of exercise the “Evelyn-Couch-Green-Tomatoes Workout.”  If you have not seen this film . . .

. . . cook some good southern food, go out and rent it, and sit down with the aforementioned food and a box of tissues.  Now you are ready to enjoy a great film.  I do not want to spoil anything but here is a quick clip showing off our inspiration, followed by our own rendition of the workout.  Enjoy!

School is Out! And the Spiders Are In!

School is over!!!  What a feeling *sigh,* what a relief.  The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and the spiders are moving in . . . wait that is NOT one of the pleasantries of spring.  One of the downsides of spring, actually any weather change seems to bring on onset of bugs into the house, but spring is one of the worst times.  Wednesday night this big one . . .

. . . gave me quite a scare.  Not one of those running and screaming scares, more like a stunned scare where you forget to breath.  At home dad is alpha spider killer, but when he is unavailable I get to substitute as the great spider killer.  I know Tiffany hates spiders, so I will get to be Alpha spider exterminator in this household.  *gulp* Now this particular spider, as you can see, has cleverly wedged himself between two doorframes making just reaching in and squishing the thing a little harder.  I ended up wrapping a tissue around the handle of a screwdriver and giving the thing a quick smack.  It did the job (ewe!), but I did feel a little guilty, I mean the guy only had seven legs.  So, beware spiders, I have a screwdriver, and I am not afraid to use it.

What do you get . . .

What do you get when you cross a curious cat with freshly re-sealed blacktop? A frantic mother, an annoyed me, a dirty bathtub, an irritated (and wet) cat, and an unexpected tribute to Grauman's Chinese Theater.
Coming soon! Tickets to Bingo's walk of fame!

Hee Hee Hee, Hoo Hoo Hoo!

While navigating the World Wide Web (searching for something . . . can’t remember what it was!) I came across this hilarious photograph.

I have a thing for owls, so of course I loved this!  It also inspired an exclusive search for funny (and cute) owl pictures; here are a few of my favorites.  Enjoy!

Awww, so sweet.

Laughed so hard when I found this one!  :D

Have 8 minutes to spare?

I have to confess, I have a soft spot for a rather fat and obnoxious orange cat.  So if you have few minutes to spare in between wrapping gifts, cooking Christmas dinner, and greeting guests, check out Garfield's 12 days of Christmas for a laugh!

Ha! Ha! Hanukkah!

I came across this on Facebook, and could not resist passing it along!  :D
